Kirby Brown

President and Chief Executive Officer

Kirby has been President and Chief Executive Office of Beneficial Life Insurance Company since February of 2010. He joined Beneficial as the Chief Investment Officer in April of 2008. His investment management experience extends over 26 years, including over 13 years in senior positions with ING. He was appointed Deseret Management Corporation’s (parent company of Beneficial) Chief Financial Officer in August of 2010 concurrent with his role at Beneficial. At ING, Kirby was the Head of Investment Process and Risk Management for ING Investment Management Americas where he was responsible for fixed income and equity investment management processes for third party portfolios. Prior to that role, Kirby was Senior Vice President and Managing Director of ING Investment Management, Canada leading the overall investment efforts in Canada. For over three years, he served as Head of Proprietary Advisory Services and Director, Portfolio Management, Regional Management Europe in the Netherlands. Kirby joined ING Investment Management in 1994 as Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager. He was head of Trading Research and Funds Management for Koch Industries, Inc. and a portfolio manager for MetLife Investment Management Corporation. He received his M.B.A. from the Marriott School of Management, Brigham Young University, and his B.A. from Brigham Young. Kirby holds the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and has held the Series 7 (Securities Agent), 24 (Principal) and 63 (Commodities Futures and Options) securities licenses.

J. David Pearce

Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary

David Pearce has served as Senior Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Beneficial Life Insurance Company since 2008. He joined Beneficial’s legal department in 2005, and has also served as Chief Compliance Officer since 2007. In 2010, David was named a Senior Vice President. David also serves as legal counsel for Deseret Management Corporation, the parent of Beneficial. Prior to joining Beneficial, David was a shareholder with Fabian & Clendenin, a Salt Lake City law firm. At Fabian, David’s practice focused on commercial litigation, where he represented clients before state and federal courts. David has repeatedly been voted by his peers as one of Utah’s Legal Elite. David received his juris doctorate from the University of Utah College of Law, where he was an editor on the Utah Law Review. He received his B.S. from Brigham Young University.

Spencer Butler

Vice President, Controller and Treasurer

Spencer has been Vice President, Controller and Treasurer at Beneficial Life Insurance Company since 2015. During his tenure, he has had responsibility for various functions, including financial reporting (Statutory and GAAP), reinsurance, accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll. Spencer joined Beneficial in 2004. His financial reporting experience extends over 16 years, including as an Audit Senior position for Ernst & Young from 2000 to 2004, where he focused on financial services clients. Spencer earned his M.S. in Accountancy from the University of Notre Dame and his B.S. in Finance from Arizona State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant.

Mark Walter

Vice President and Chief Information Officer

Mark has been Vice President and Chief Information Officer of Beneficial Life Insurance Company since 2020. Mark also serves as Chief Information Officer for Deseret Management Corporation, the parent company of Beneficial Life. He began his career at Beneficial Life in 1991 while pursuing his bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Utah. Mark served as Director of Technical Services for Beneficial Life and Deseret Management Corporation from 2009 – 2020. During this time, his team consolidated IT infrastructure operations for Beneficial Life, Deseret Management Corporation, Temple Square Hospitality and Deseret Book. He currently serves as a board member of AIM, the Association of Information Management.
